Solidus definition

Justinian II gold solidus coin with image of ChristSolidus: a gold coin of the Roman Empire, most typically thought of as a coin of the Byzantine Roman era. Such coins were in general circulation until late in the Middle Ages. Alternately, but less frequently a solidus was called a byzant, bezant or bezzant.
