What documents refer to the burial shroud between A.D. 944 and 1204?
Documents from this era, after the Image of Edessa was brought from Edessa to Constantinople in A.D. 944 up until it disappeared during the sack of Constantinople by French and Venetian forces of the Fourth Crusade, are very telling. The include:
- The three known testaments from the year 944 (Also see What happened in 944)
- The letter from Alexios the emperor to Robert of Flanders (must be treated with caution)
- The history of the Fourth Crusades by Robert de Clari
Nothing is as significant in the period as the Hungarian Pray Manuscript, sometimes referred to simply as the Pray Codex.
